The homeland of the guppy – fresh-water reservoirs and the rivers practically all parts of America. This breed is rather unpretentious: for example, optimum water temperature in nature for the guppy makes about 25-26 °C, but in need of a small fish will well feel and in the temperature environment with lower indicators.
With the majority of viviparous small fishes the beginning aquarian without problems will make friends at once, and the guppy not an exception. To representatives of this breed skilled specialists in the maintenance of house do not lose interest even – guppies are very beautiful and various.
Maintenance of the guppy
The question of the sizes of "living space" for these small fishes has no basic value. The cheerful couple of the guppy will give posterity, being even in a 3-liter can, however, in so constrained conditions all individuals will be very tiny and water should be changed too often.
The small aquarium on 5–6 l will be suitable for 1–2 couples small fishes. If you decided to get bigger number of the guppy, keep in mind that not less than 1,5-2 l of water have to fall on each of them. And here that is really important for representatives of this breed, so it is characteristics of water. Let's consider them in more detail.
What attractive option for the maintenance of the guppy the small aquarium would not seem, better to lodge small fishes in spacious capacity. The less house reservoir, the quicker water in it will become soiled waste products of small fishes. If in time not to fill an aquarium with fresh and clear water (and in the conditions of an aquarium of the modest sizes it is necessary to do it rather often), your pets can be lost from influence of pathogenic organisms which colonies very quickly develop in dirty water. Take care also of system of a filtration, differently even in a big aquarium water will spoil very quickly. Purity can be maintained as follows: regularly to change not all water in an aquarium, but only about 2/3 its volumes. Water has to be otstoyanny and have the same indicators, as well as the main part of water in a house reservoir.
As the most suitable plant for the dwelling of the guppy consider the Indian fern known still as the water fairy or a fern horn-shaped. It was recognized, by the way, as the effective natural filter and an indicator of normal acidity of water in a house aquarium. When the plant looks fresh, and its leaves of bright green color, know that all indicators of a microenvironment of an aquarium as it should be.
Acidity, sufficient for the guppy, fluctuates within indicators 6,5–6,8 while for the majority of small fishes of other breeds it is higher – 7. Remember that to replace the guppy in water which characteristics sharply differ from that water in which small fishes were before, it is impossible: your favourites can be lost from shock. Fluctuation of indicators of pH should not be more than 0,2.
Degree of hardness of water depends on what volume of salt is present at its structure. Water with rigidity from 4 to 10 ° dH – the most suitable for the guppy. In this question it is not recommended to go into extremes: too soft (0-5) or, on the contrary, very rigid (20-30) water is unsuitable for the maintenance of small fishes of this breed. By the way, usual hardness of water are in the countries of Russia on mark 4 – 12 ° dH.
The following important condition for comfortable life of the guppy is lighting. Moreover, fertility of small fishes also depends on correctly organized lighting. Length of light day 12 hours long is per day recognized as the most convenient for the guppy. In a winter season when light day is shorter, your pets will need light within 10–12 hours, and in the summer – till 14 o'clock in day. Besides, try to find such place that in the mornings small fishes had opportunity to luxuriate in the light of direct sunshine for an aquarium.
To understand, whether is in your house reservoir of a problem with lighting, the same Indian fern will help. It is enough light for small fishes if the water fairy quickly grows and has a bright green color. Brownish leaves of a fern and its slowed-down growth indicate insufficient lighting. Too intensive light causes development of seaweed on a plant and water "blossoming".
Choose soil for an aquarium with the guppy with particles of the average size. Too small components of soil cover a bottom of a glass reservoir with very dense bed that considerably complicates growth of plants, natural circulation of water and gases, reduces efficiency of the filter which is built in under soil. Large fractions of a covering, on the contrary, will lay down not densely and form so-called pockets which will accumulate the remains of a forage and waste products of inhabitants of an aquarium, so, water will become soiled very quickly.
However, it is as if accurate you tried to lay out a covering on a bottom, the minimum emptiness will be in any soil. To prevent development of putrefactive wreckers, soil is washed up 1 time in 5–6 months and 1 time in 6–7 days sifonit it when replacing water.
Guppy and their neighbors
The guppy – silent peaceful creations. They easily get on with many breeds of small fishes. In an aquarium of the guppy are in the basic in the top and its middle part. They will perfectly get on with other gregarious fishes living in the same place: petsiliya, , danio-rerio. Will not prevent the guppy and those inhabitants of a house reservoir who prefer to swim in benthonic part of a house reservoir. These are somik, botion, fish knife.
Than feed the guppy
These small fishes like to eat and are not captious to a food choice. Besides live organisms of the guppy eat the crude meat cut by small slices, fillet of sea fishes, squids, the granulated forage, grain with pleasure. The main part of a diet of small fishes has to fall on various live forages which need to be alternated. As most "tasty" (from the point of view of the guppy) consider a crank, water fleas, a koretra, a Cyclops, a trubochnik, wingless forms of drosophilas, infusorians and cheese kleshchik.
The guppy and a small amount of bread, cheese, liverwurst will not damage.
The main health hazard of small fishes is covered in number of food – they cannot be overfed by no means, differently posterities from them not to wait!
Reproduction of the guppy
The guppy – viviparous small fishes, that is they do not throw caviar, and one fine day you will simply notice in an aquarium replenishment in the form of tiny whitebaits. Newborn small fishes very brisk and well swim, with appetite eating infusorians and a small Cyclops. In 3,5–4,5 months young guppies will be ready to give posterity. In suitable conditions of keeping these small fishes breed each 20–40 days. Young samochka bring 10–12 whitebaits into world, after a while this figure increases to 100!
Whether the person can influence somehow process of reproduction of the guppy, having accelerated or having slowed down it? Practice shows how to receive a rich brood of beautiful small fishes:
- Plentifully fill an aquarium with underwater plants.
- Reduce the general water temperature by 2 degrees.
- Change water to small fishes every week.
- Daily feed the guppy with live food.
- Check, whether to closely your pets. The optimum space for two individuals makes from 2 to 4 l.
- Has to fall on one female on two individuals of an opposite sex. That there was no degeneration of breed, males and females are got in different shops.
Set of these simple conditions has beneficial influence on intensity of reproduction of small fishes.
If the guppy not the only inhabitants of your aquarium, it is necessary to take care of safety of females who are going to give posterity. You will guess fast appearance of whitebaits on the rounded dense paunch of a small fish. In this case it is better to transplant a samochka in separate capacity with water (it can be even a small glass jar with primitive vegetation). Water temperature thus has to be 1-2 degrees higher, than before.
After the birth of whitebaits the adult individual is returned right there in the general aquarium, and crumbs of the guppy maintained in a separate reservoir till 2–3 weeks. During this time they manage to grow up and get stronger enough to become full inhabitants of the general aquarium.
